Death and Dying in Chicano Culture
By Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlan (MECHA) at UCR
About
Death and Dying in Chicano Culture is an educational exploration on the role of colonization, neighborhood violence, necropolitics, and how the Chicano’s proximity to death has created a unique cultural approach to grief, memorial, and remembrance. This will be happening on November 3rd, 2026 at 7:15PM in the Bears Den. For the purposes of our activity, please bring a photo or a memorial artifact for someone who has passed on, regardless of the relation you may have to them. All props to @mxrrbl and their thesis “How Chicanos build resilience and resistance in the face of Death” presented to the University of San Diego for their work and ultimate inspiration for this meeting. Thank you for documenting and sharing otherwise overlooked parts of our history 🤝🏼🫀
