About
What’s the true cause of Alzheimer’s disease? Researchers have followed hundreds of clues for decades, reaching countless dead ends. On Monday, join UC Riverside chemistry professor Ryan Julian at Bar Ni Modo on University Avenue at 5 p.m. as he reopens the cold case on this devastating disease. His evidence suggests the true culprit causing Alzheimer’s is not simply from plaques forming in the brain, as is widely believed, but that one key protein interferes with the normal job of another. Julian holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Caltech and came to UCR in 2005. Not initially intending to investigate Alzheimer's, he discovered a way of identifying changes that occur in molecules due to aging, which eventually led to insights in age-related diseases themselves. Come for the free appetizers, stay as he unravels a mystery that’s been long in the making.
